Revealing: Skobeeva aims to photograph the ‘emotional algebra of imperfection’ that makes human beings who they are. This series of cyanotypes tackles the roots of identity forming, perception and self-presentation in attempt to understand the essence of true self and influence of life experiences, experiences of past generations and future plans on identity forming. Intentional imperfection of the images juxtaposes the intentionally uncovered imperfections to mass media dictated images of anodyne ‘beauty’ and ‘perfection’. She explores the stages in identity forming and make references to the past, present or an imaginary future experience that constructs the identity, challenging the viewer to understand, accept and cherish the physical and psychological differences that could be/used to be referred to as ‘imperfections’.
‘I explore with great passion the medium of photography; trying to understand the development of the medium within the fine arts. I try to foresee the development of the medium to find my own path within it, avoiding the temptation of following the masses. I challenge the medium and question its boundaries by breaking the rules hoping to free photography from its own prejudice.’
